Local Rule Change
April 2022

PREFERRED LIES EFFECTIVE FROM 23rd April 2022.

Preferred lies are no longer in operation, with the exception detailed below.

PREMIER 4th HOLE

Despite the lifting of full winter Local Rules (as above) the bottom section of the 4th fairway of the Premier course - this area is still in poor condition, and accordingly you should be aware that a major part of this area remains roped off and is classed as abnormal ground conditions and is marked as ground under repair. The following rule clarification details exactly how you should proceed when playing this hole and will remain in force until you are notified otherwise by the Competitions and Handicaps Committee.

* If your ball comes to rest in the GUR area the ball should be retrieved - free relief must be taken at the mat at the bottom right-hand side of the fairway. You should place your ball on the mat (not drop the ball) and you may not use a tee.

* If you hit your ball into the GUR area and it is known, or virtually certain, to have landed in that area, but you are unable to find the ball then under rule 16.1b you may take relief without penalty at the mat at the bottom right-hand side of the fairway. You should place your ball on the mat (not drop the ball) and you may not use a tee.

* In order to rely upon this rule, it must be known, or virtually certain that your ball landed in the GUR area (NOTE i.e. you or your playing partners must see the ball land in the GUR area). It is not sufficient to presume that this is the case as a tee shot will require a carry of approx. 200 yards to land in this area as many shots fall short of the GUR area and roll off the fairway into the trees.

* If you have hit your ball into this general area of the course, but are uncertain exactly where your ball landed, then you should play a provisional ball and then search for your ball when you reach the bottom of the fairway. If you are then unable to locate your ball within the three-minute search time your ball is declared lost and you should continue the hole with your provisional ball now becoming your ball in play.
