Mr President - Rob Williams

Rob has been a member of the Club since moving to the area in 2010 with his wife Helen and they are both active supporters of club competitions, team matches and social events. During his time with the Club, Rob has served on Committees in numerous roles, culminating in Club Captain in 2022.

“I’ve always enjoyed getting involved with the running of the club to ensure our members enjoy the best possible golfing and social experience, and I’m looking forward to continuing that by supporting our Club Captains and future Captains over the next three years.”

Mr Captain - Davie Thompson

Davie has lived in the Warrington area for 25 years and is married to Sandra with 2 grown up sons. He joined Portal Golf Club in 2020 having previously played at Sutton Hall GC for twenty years. He joined the Competitions Committee in 2023 and was appointed Vice Captain in January 2024.

“We have two excellent courses at Portal that are a challenge for any golfer but the biggest positive factor in the club is the people. Joining 5 years ago, I was very quickly made to feel at home by everyone I met. I have had great times here and made a lot of friends and hopefully I can play my part in helping Portal Golf Club be the place to be in 2025.”

Lady Captain - Amy Lester

Amy joined Portal in 2016, after relocating from Surrey.

As a ‘new to golf’ member she was welcomed with open arms by the friendly ladies, and quickly improved and joined the Shield and Percival teams, enjoying the competitive as well as the social side of golf. She has led the Comps team for 2 years and worked closely with the handicap secretary. Having been on the Comps, Council and Ladies committees for 2 or 3 years now, and having a good open and friendly approach, she is a popular choice amongst the ladies. “I am very proud of our ladies section and the Portal golf club as a whole and I will do my best to be an effective, welcoming and fun Lady Captain for 2025”.
